Extracurricular:

Lauren E. O’Malley Foundation, President and Board Member

Founded as a 501(c)(3) Private Foundation to accomplish the following:

  1. Created a Pre-school Classroom in Mexico for a children’s shelter, The Refugio Santa Esparanza Infantil.  Raised funds to:  Finish the room’s “shell” by providing flooring, roofing, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, windows, light fixtures and fans; Provide contents of the center-based pre-school classroom, including all furniture and storage, carpets, equipment and materials such as educational toys, books, art supplies, teacher supplies, etc.; and Provide funding for a pre-school teacher and a teacher’s helper for two years.
  2. Granted a Peer Scholarship to a fellow Awty student to attend a 2008 UCLA Summer Program.
  3. “Adopted” a Mexican immigrant family (in conjunction with family foundation, the Giles O’Malley Foundation) for three years while the family’s father was battling terminal cancer, providing funds for housing and necessities and providing Christmas feast and gifts for the children each year.
  4. Donated funds to the Awty Business Development Club for a women’s small business project in Lebanon.

Competitive Ballroom Dance (began competing nationally in May 2008)

National Competition Awards:  5 First Place Awards and 1 Seventh Place Award in Tango, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Fox Trot, and Quick Step.  Began competing in Latin Dances (Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive) in Spring 2009 winning 5 First Place Awards in March 2009 competition.

Business Development Club (Founding PR Officer)

Accomplishments:  Orchestrated fundraising for the current project which is a wheat mill run by female employees in an area previously used for illegal drug cultivation in Lebanon.

International Action (“Interact”) Club (Founding Vice President)

The Interact Club is a service organization that is affiliated with the Rotary Club.

Accomplishments:  Raised funds for Doctors Without Borders and organized and provided Awty students as volunteers for local charities.

Work Experience

Intern at Graham Williams Group, PR/Radio/TV firm, Washington DC (Summer 2009)

- Prepared and researched for daily radio broadcast topics.

- Wrote and edited editorial columns.

- Produced TV segment on youth entrepreneurs:  conceived concept, found and

booked guests, wrote speaking points, and orchestrated taping.

- Produced a radio show on youth entrepreneurs.

Counselor at Camp Longhorn, Burnett, Texas (August 2009)

- Counselor at an overnight camp.

- Responsible for a cabin of 14 girls, as well as many other campers, facilitating

daily activities and monitoring safety of the campers.
